Welcome Baby Hilton!

Jennifer and Dan would like to welcome you to the newest Baby Hilton! We aren't sure what we're going to call him yet but we're thinking of Adam Alexander. Until we are certain though, I figured we should just introduce him as Baby Hilton.

Jen went to Banner Gateway Hospital (the new hospital at Higley and the 60) at around 3:00 and was immediately admitted to Room 1. I was immediately impressed by the size of the room! There was a couch and a chair along with the bed and everything else. And they weren't all cramped together either.

Another thing that was interesting was the options for the TV (yeah, I know, only a guy would be excited by this). Not only were there multiple channels to choose from, you can also buy unlimited movies for $4.95 for 24 hours. Not too shabby!

After a little while, Jen was hooked up to the IV and the pitocin was started. The contractions started almost immediately and after that point, it's kind of all a blur. The anesthesiologist came in and hooked up the epidural and luckily Jen took his advice and started the medicine even though she wasn't feeling a lot of pain. Starting around 7:00, the contractions got really close and strong and the baby appeared to REALLY want out. Jen went from just being uncomfortable to really, really being uncomfortable and the nurses called Dr. Huish right away. He showed up about 20 minutes later had her push about 6 times over two contractions and 5 minutes later the baby was out! From the time we entered the hospital until the baby was born, it took 5 hours, 18 minutes.

Baby (Adam?) weighed in at 7 lbs, 9 oz and measured 21 inches long. He had a little bit of a hard time breathing when he first came out and REFUSED to cry. No matter what the doctor and nurses did, he just wouldn't cry! But he did stay awake. As of this writing (11:00 Phoenix time) he still hasn't slept but has tried to eat several times.

He is the calmest baby we've had so far and we think he looks a lot like Josh when he was first born. But it's hard to tell when their face is squishy (yeah, he had a little help with the squishy face in this one...he may as well get used to it).

It's actually really nice to have another little baby in our family. I have enjoyed having older kids that can talk and do things themselves and are so much fun, but having this little baby will change our family for the better I think.

We appreciate all of your support during Jen's pregnancy and delivery. We've imposed on several people to watch Josh and Emily during this time and we really appreciate it. It's nice to know your kids are being well taken care of when they're away.

More pictures to follow soon! Unfortunately, I didn't empty my camera before we went to the hospital and so i could only take about 50 pictures tonight. But I'll be able to take 400 or more starting Thursday. Here are a few more pictures:

It looks like this little one will be as goofy as Dan (see the pic with his tongue hanging out) :) We’re glad that everything went well and we can’t wait to see Adam if that’s what his name ends up being.

Congratulations! I am glad Jen and the baby are doing well. It is nice to hear the hospital accommodations are to your liking. I remember freezing all night while trying to sleep in those blasted hospital chairs. When are you heading home from the hospital? We would like to bring dinner by sometime.
